Web App Developer Team
Web App Developer Team
Business Discovery & Event Technology Project
Black Connect is forming a volunteer web app developer team for a 6–8 week project connected to business discovery, community engagement, and event-based programming.
This project supports Black Connect’s mission to build infrastructure that helps Black entrepreneurs gain visibility, access, and opportunity. The volunteer team will help develop a web-based tool designed to support live engagement, business discovery, and future community commerce activations.
This is a project-based volunteer opportunity for students, early-career technologists, and experienced professionals who want to contribute technical skills to a focused, mission-driven build. Volunteers will work collaboratively on a practical web tool connected to Black Connect’s live programming and community engagement work.
Project Responsibilities
Volunteer team members may assist with:
building a mobile-friendly web-based application;
developing a random selection feature using roster or event data;
creating a clean display experience for phones, tablets, laptops, and event screens;
supporting standard and custom event configurations;
working with spreadsheet, CSV, or simple data sources;
testing the tool across devices;
documenting setup steps for non-technical users.
Preferred Skills
Helpful skills may include:
HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or TypeScript;
React, Next.js, or similar frameworks;
responsive web design;
JSON, CSV files, Google Sheets, or APIs;
Git/GitHub;
Vercel, Netlify, Firebase, Cloudflare, or similar deployment tools;
basic UI/UX awareness.
Volunteers do not need to know every tool listed. We are looking for people who can build, test, communicate clearly, collaborate with a team, and document their work.
Project Goal
The goal is to create a working prototype of a web-based event tool that can load a roster, randomly select entries without repeats, display selected entries clearly, track selected entries, reset for a new session, and work on both mobile devices and larger event screens.
Time Commitment
This is a 6–8 week volunteer project with flexible scheduling. Team members should be prepared to participate in periodic check-ins, collaborate with other volunteers, and complete assigned project tasks within agreed timelines.
Why Volunteer
Volunteers for this project will have the opportunity to:
contribute to a real web-based tool connected to a live Black Connect initiative;
support a nonprofit initiative designed to help Black entrepreneurs gain visibility, access, and opportunity;
collaborate with other students, technologists, and mission-aligned professionals;
apply technical skills to a practical product build with a clear use case;
strengthen experience with product planning, front-end development, testing, and documentation;
work with roster data, randomization logic, responsive layouts, and event-based use cases;
help create technology infrastructure that can support future Black Connect programming;
build meaningful professional relationships with others interested in technology, entrepreneurship, and community impact.
How to Express Interest
Interested volunteers should complete the Volunteer Interest Form and upload a resume, CV, or summary of relevant experience. Students may also include a GitHub profile, portfolio link, class project, or other example of relevant work.
