Whether you're interested in fundraising, community engagement, advocacy, programs, or innovation, there’s a place for you. Committees play a vital role in shaping our initiatives, expanding our reach, and ensuring we serve our community effectively.

Membership

Focus: Grow and retain membership by engaging prospective members and ensuring current members feel supported.

  • Activities:

    • Recruit new members and manage outreach campaigns.

    • Develop member benefits and onboarding materials.

    • Monitor member satisfaction and address concerns.

    • Create spaces for peer-to-peer support and community-building amongst members and local chapters.

    • Lead the opening of Black Connect local and college chapters.


Events

Focus: Plan, organize, and execute events that connect members, promote learning, and showcase Black-owned businesses.

  • Activities:

    • Coordinate general meetings, networking mixers, workshops and panel discussions.

    • Partner with local businesses for sponsorships and co-hosted events.

    • Develop an annual event calendar.


Programs

Focus: Provide guidance, and support for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Black Connect’s programs and services.

  • Activities:

    • Provide input on the development of new programs and initiatives.

    • Ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the populations served.

    • Assist in identifying risks or challenges within programs and recommend solutions.

    • Assist in identifying resources, and partnerships that can enhance program quality.


Marketing & Communications

Focus: Amplify Black Connect’s mission and events through strong branding and outreach.

  • Activities:

    • Manage social media.

    • Design flyers, newsletters, and press releases.

    • Build relationships with local media and influencers.

    • Ensure consistent branding across platforms.


Fundraising

Focus: Support efforts to secure the financial resources necessary to fulfill Black Connect’s mission

  • Activities:

    • Develop and recommend an annual fundraising plan.

    • Support and advise on fundraising strategies, including individual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events.

    • Identify, cultivate, and steward donors and prospective funders.

    • Assist with donor recognition and appreciation efforts.

    • Develop fundraising campaigns, grants, and donor engagement strategies.

    • Help identify new fundraising opportunities and revenue streams.


Advocacy & Policy

Focus: Guide and support Black Connect’s efforts to influence public policy and promote its mission through advocacy.

  • Activities:

    • Monitor and analyze local/state/federal policies impacting Black community, generally, and Black-owned businesses.

    • Develop and recommend advocacy goals, priorities, and strategies to the Board.

    • Advise on communications and messaging related to policy and advocacy.

    • Help identify opportunities for public education, awareness campaigns, and grassroots engagement.

    • Ensure that the organization’s advocacy efforts are nonpartisan and aligned with legal and ethical standards.

    • Mobilize members around advocacy initiatives.

    • Build partnerships with civic leaders and policy groups.


Partnerships & Community Engagement

Focus: Build and sustain strong relationships with other nonprofits, corporations, and community organizations.

  • Activities:

    • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with community organizations, businesses, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

    • Support the planning and implementation of outreach efforts, community events, and engagement activities.

    • Advise on strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility, reputation, and trust within the communities.

    • Strengthen visibility in cities where Black Connect operates local chapters.


Technology & Innovation

Focus: Provides strategic oversight and guidance on the use of technology to improve organizational effectiveness, service delivery, and innovation

  • Activities:

    • Advise on technology strategy, infrastructure, and digital tools to support organizational goals.

    • Identify opportunities to use technology to improve internal processes, program delivery, and communication.

    • Support the evaluation and implementation of new platforms, software, or systems.

    • Monitor emerging technologies and trends that could benefit the organization.


College Collective

Focus: Empower college students to actively support Black Connect’s mission by serving as a bridge between college students and Black-owned businesses.

  • Activities:

    • Provide input on programs, events, and services that engage college students with Black Connect.

    • Plan and support initiatives such as networking and recruitment events for college students.

    • Encourage continued involvement of college students and alumni in the organization’s mission.

    • Work with the membership committee to establish Black Connect college chapters
