Support the Expansion of Black Connect’s Small Business Legal Services Program

In recognition of Black Business Month this August, Black Connect is requesting tax-deductible contributions to support the expansion of our Small Business Legal Services Program.

Black Connect is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit recognized by the American Bar Association with the Brown Select Award and featured by Forbes for its work supporting Black entrepreneurs.

Black Connect’s Small Business Legal Services Program connects entrepreneurs and small business owners with legal information, referrals, and pro bono support through a growing network of law firm and legal partners. As demand for small business legal support continues to grow, Black Connect is expanding the program to better support entrepreneurs while also streamlining and improving the efficiency of its case referral system for participating law firms.

  • Black Connect is requesting a $3,000 tax-deductible contribution in support of this expansion.

    Your contribution will help strengthen legal access for entrepreneurs while improving the systems that make pro bono participation more efficient and effective for law firm partners.

  • The expanded program will strengthen Black Connect’s internal infrastructure around:

    • intake and triage;

    • attorney-facing case summaries;

    • document organization;

    • contract and lease issue tracking;

    • referral follow-up;

    • early dispute resolution;

    • policy outreach;

    • documentation of recurring legal access barriers affecting entrepreneurs and small business owners.

  • The expansion will help entrepreneurs and small business owners receive more organized and responsive support. By strengthening intake, triage, document review, case summaries, and referral tracking, Black Connect can better identify the nature of each legal issue, determine appropriate next steps, and connect entrepreneurs with relevant resources or legal partners more efficiently.

  • The expansion is also designed to improve the experience of participating law firms.

    Law firm partners will benefit from:

    • better-screened matters before referral;

    • clearer attorney-facing case summaries;

    • more complete document organization;

    • improved tracking of referrals and case status;

    • stronger identification of suitable pro bono matters;

    • reduced back-and-forth during preliminary review;

    • better information about recurring legal issues affecting small business owners;

    • a more efficient and structured referral process.

Ways to Support Our Giving Campaign

Law firms, bar foundations, law firm foundations, affinity groups, pro bono committees, diversity committees, practice groups, and aligned legal partners may support this request in several ways:

1. Make a Direct Contribution

A law firm, bar foundation, law firm foundation, or aligned legal partner may make a tax-deductible contribution directly to Black Connect in support of the program expansion. Checks may be mailed to: Black Connect, Inc., 27251 Wesley Chapel Blvd, Ste. B14, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544.

2. Employee Engagement Activity Supporting Pro Bono Expansion

Firms may also use this funding request as an employee engagement activity in support of pro bono expansion.

For example, if 30 attorneys or staff members contribute $50 each, the firm could match those contributions with $1,500 to reach the full $3,000 request.

This approach allows firms to engage attorneys, staff, affinity groups, offices, and internal committees in supporting a valuable community resource while helping Black Connect strengthen the systems that make pro bono referrals more organized, efficient, and effective.

For the convenience of law firms and legal partners, Black Connect has also created a dedicated Black Business Month Legal Access Giving Campaign that firms may use to help coordinate employee giving, affinity group participation, office-wide contributions, matching campaigns, or bar foundation referrals.

3. Share With Internal Affinity Groups and Committees

Firms may share this request with internal affinity groups, Black attorney networks, diversity committees, pro bono committees, community impact teams, small business practice groups, entrepreneurship initiatives, or office leadership.

4. Recommend Funding Through a Bar Foundation or Law Firm Foundation

Firms and attorneys may recommend this request to a bar foundation, law firm foundation, charitable giving committee, or related funding body that supports legal access, public interest work, racial equity, entrepreneurship, or community economic development.
